Elbe Weser Nordsee

The region "Elbe Weser North Sea" consists of the two lower saxonian
districts Stade and Cuxhaven. In the north east, it is limited by the course of
Elbe river from its mouth into the North sea to Hambourg. In the west, Weser
river completes the landscape formed by waters from its mouth to Bremen.

In the eastern part, there is the district of Stade and the corresponding
district town of the same name. Stade, which was occupied by Sweden in former
times, possesses an beautiful old harbour. The picturesque old town invites its
visitors to extensive exploring-trips. A walk through the small alley next to
the "Schwedenspeicher" to the "Ern-Isle" can be recommendable for having coffee
and cake on the terrace followed by a boat trip on the romantic moat.

The so called Old Land is limited by Elbe river in the north, Hamburg in the
east, Buxtehude in the south and Stade in the west. It is the biggest
cultivation area for fruits in Germany. Especially during the flowering time of
cherries and apples in springtime, the Old Land is a popular place for
excursions.

In the west of the region the district of Cuxhaven extends from the north sea
to Bremen. The district town of the same name is located directly at the mouth
of Elbe river and invites its visitors on excursions to Helgoland. Besides, the
small offshore island Neuwerk in the national park of Hamburg mud flats can be
reached from Cuxhaven. The landmark of the small inhabited island is the
lighthouse, which is 35 metres tall.

The promenade with a length of 10 kilometres invites as well to long walks as
the mud flats. At the mouth of Elbe river, visitors can enjoy huge ships on
their way to the sea.

Above all, the region impresses tourists with its fantastic landscape:
Between moors, lakes, forests and heath land, people who love to enjoy the
silence of nature will find a perfect place for passing their holidays.

The geographical situation of the region Stade-Cuxhaven near the cost can
also be made out on the regional dishes: A lot of fish-variations are offered in
the traditional restaurants at the coast, such as redfish in a bear-pastry.

But also products of the fruit cultivations in the Old Land belong to the
regional specialities, for example the so called "Diekpedder", a mixture of
apple schnapps and juice. At celebrations, "Diekpedder" could be the addition to
the Altländer wedding soup. But attention: If the soup shall be prepared for all
guests of a wedding, you need an extraordinary cooking pot.

In Stade a drink could be the "Stader Eierbier", a mixture of bear and eggs,
sugar and ginger. In the "Kehdinger Land" Kehdinger SchinkelbĂĽddel are one of
the traditional dishes, a cheese pastry made of choux pastry.
