Sjællland

Region Zealand is one of the five territories that makeup Denmark, situated on Zealand island but does not include the capital Copenhagen and its suburbs.

Around 800.000 people are living in the region, spread over the varoius municipalities, with up to 30.000 or more inhabitants in the cities and village towns. The region has several coastal towns worth visiting and exploring. Beaches of the premier quality are found everywhere in this region. Along the coastlines are large areas with summer cottages, especially in Odsherred.

The distance from the calm and silent nature to busy environs is quite short and there you can find shopping streets and centres, restaurants, libraries etc. Also the public transportation system is very solid, consisting of trains and buses covering the whole area. The region houses a number of manufacturing and production units, both small and big, among which are metal, machinery, food and veterinary.

Zealand boasts of numerous rivers, lakes, moors, castles, farmhouses and historical sites from the Vikings era, middle ages and the Renaissance. The many castles, manors and forests are what make Zealand so distinctive. It gives you the impression of a rich soil. It is the area of Denmark to grow cereal and seeds, therefore the density of farm animals on Zealand are the lowest in Denmark.

There are numerous hotels, hostels and village inns which are worth the gastronomical experience.
